Hello and welcome back to The Scriptures Are Real on your co-host, Lamar, and this is my other co-host, Carrie.

0:20.0

Hey, how are you?

0:21.2

So we just finished a little bit ago talking about the beginnings of Noah.

0:25.9

We introduced who Noah was, a little bit about him, and this should be the podcast right

0:30.5

before this one if you want to look at that.

0:33.1

We talked about Noah, and then we talked about him building the ark, and now we're going

0:37.2

to get to the flood story itself, and what do talked about him building the ark and now we're going to get to

0:37.8

the flood story itself and what do we learn out of the flood story? It seems, well, there's a lot of

0:44.4

things to go into and I'm going to ask you, Kerry, what this, does this, is this necessary to

0:49.4

wipe out everybody, save eight souls? I mean, we got to wipe out everybody. I don't know how many

0:53.4

people that is, but there's a lot of people there. Yeah. And this, this is one that a lot of people struggle with. Like, okay, that's a whole lot of violence and death for this situation. What do we go? You know, it's funny because for children, it's one of their favorite stories. But what we focus for them is there are a lot of animals. Oh, that's cool animals, right?

1:13.9

You get the little toy arc and you get, you know, you're in when you go to the nursery and you march the animals up there and they all get in there. It's a nice little boat story. Yeah, everyone loves the animals in the boat part. So that part's fantastic, right? And we can make jokes about, all the unicorns forgot to get on the boat that day and whatever else. But the other side of the story is a little

1:31.2

bit disturbing, right? Well, it turns out that the reason that was happening is because everyone

1:35.8

else and every other animal was getting killed. Like they all died. And that's fairly drastic.

1:42.1

And a lot of people are somewhat disturbed by that. So I think that what we

1:45.7

want to do is kind of look at some things that might help us understand that story. And I think

1:50.2

that that actually will enable us to better understand a whole lot of things that happen in the

1:55.4

Old Testament. And I think that if I can plug your previous episode, if you haven't listened to Kerry's episode where he's addressing his ward, I don't know what the number is. It's probably two before this or. Yeah, I didn't change. But anyway, it's, and I think it's a little like a fireside I did for my ward. Yeah, you've got to listen that because Kerry sets this up also in there and he covers what's going on in Noah.

2:38.9

So as a companion to this one, if you want to know some more, go back to that one. That really sets up the covenant people and it starts with Noah. Yeah. Yeah. And we'll cover some of that same material here, but go a little bit more into depth and extrapolate it to the rest of the Old Testament more and cover a couple of other ideas and concepts. I think that you, as you've been a seminary teacher and so on, you've had some ways of helping people just some things to take into account when you're dealing with things in

2:43.9

the Old Testament where you say, well, that doesn't make sense or well, that seems weird to me

2:48.0

or I'm not comfortable with that. that's true so um just to give

2:53.5

you a little bit of background on that uh I taught the I taught seminary as a as a volunteer teacher
