It's Red River Shootout week on The Flagship Podcast! The Longhorns and Sooners are set for the annual battle in the Cotton Bowl as No. 21 ranked Texas and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma prepare for the 117th meeting between the two rivalry programs.
On the early week edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes take an early look ahead to Saturday's Texas-OU game. The Flagship recaps all first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian had to say during his Monday press conference with the Longhorns coming off of a much-needed road win at TCU last weekend. The co-hosts deliver the latest injury update on the Longhorns, including some bad news for the offense after Sarkisian announced senior offensive lineman Denzel Okafor will soon undergo season-ending surgery after he went down in last Saturday's game against the Horned Frogs.
The Flagship discuss what Okafor's absence will mean for the Texas offensive line, which will need to play its best game of the year against a solid Sooners' defense that currently ranks No. 7 in the country against the run. Chip and Taylor also discuss the production of sophomore running back Bijan Robinson coming off of his outstanding performance against the Horned Frogs that saw him rush for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the 32-27 win over TCU, and how crucial it is for the Longhorns’ receivers to step up their game and help take some of the workload off of Robinson this weekend when they take on the Sooners.
After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics touching on the level of concern for Texas after showing some struggles on both sides of the ball against TCU, how important it is for Texas to not expect Robinson to continue to carry the load for the Longhorns' offense and what to make of the Sooners close games and early offensive struggles this season.
