Summary
In this week's Flagship Podcast interview, we talk to Tim Fitzgerald, publisher of GoPowercat.com, about this week's game between Texas and Kansas State and so much more.
If you don't follow @LifeOfFitz on social media, you're missing out, because of Fitzy's whimsical views on life.
So, of course, our conversation starts with his impressions of the Longhorns' season from his viewpoint in Manhattan, Kan., and all of his observations.
Yes, there is plenty of talk about the Wildcats (7-4, 4-4 Big 12), who are likely to be without their starting quarterback Skylar Thompson for Friday's game (which likely means sophomore Will Howard getting the start).
We talk about K-State coach Chris Klieman in Year 3 on the job and whether Klieman "feels like a fit" in Manhattan after taking over for legendary coach Bill Snyder (who has a book coming out Nov. 30 called "My Football Life - And The Rest Of The Story").
What would a conversation about K-State be without discussing their heart-and-soul player on offense - 5-foot-5 running back Deuce Vaughn - of Cedar Ridge in Round Rock - who leads the Wildcats in rushing (1,115 yards, 5.9 ypc, 14 TDs) and receptions (45 for 464 and 3 TDs).
Fitzgerald talks about the other skill players on offense to keep an eye on, including receiver Malik Knowles, who is also a huge threat in the return game (with two kick returns for touchdowns this season).
On defense, the conversation starts with "King Felix" - sophomore defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who leads the Big 12 in sacks (11) and leads the nation in forced fumbles (six). Fitzy details how Anudike-Uzomah is yet another diamond in the rough (few others were recruiting) who has turned into a star for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats have won four of their last five, including victories over Texas Tech and TCU, which were quickly followed by both of those schools announcing the firing of their head coaches (Matt Wells and Gary Patterson, respectively). Fitzgerald talks about those games and how the aftermaths of those games affected Klieman.
We talk to Fitzy about Andre Coleman, a K-State legend who is now the receivers coach at Texas, as well as what the Wildcats could look like in 2022 as well as some K-State hoops. It's great Thanksgiving week entertainment.
