Summary

In this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, we talk to Footballscoop.com national columnist Zach Barnett, a Texas Ex, about the state of the Longhorns heading into 2022.

Barnett was a student at Texas from 2007-10 and assisted in the UT sports information office before taking a job at North Texas in the sports information office and then working at the National Football Foundation.

In 2012, Barnett went to work at FootballScoop.com, a site started by a coach and a site that "continues to rely on graduate assistants and coaches wives" as its biggest contributors in always having the latest coaching scoop, Barnett said.

Barnett's dad is Dave Barnett, the Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster who has probably most been associated with the Texas Rangers but has also provided play-by-play on TV and on the radio in every major sport, including college football.

We take one last look at Texas' 2021 season, and Barnett gives us his thoughts on the up-and-down nature of the Longhorns and if the program is closer to the team that led Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor by double digits in the third quarter or is closer to the team that lost at home to Kansas.

Barnett talks about the importance of Steve Sarkisian and his staff landing Texas' 2022 recruiting class, especially coming off a 5-7 season, and what excites and concerns him most about the Longhorns going into 2022.

Barnett gives his thoughts on Texas going to the Southeastern Conference and what needs to happen for the Longhorns to be successful once they get to the SEC. We also discuss the new-look Big 12, which is adding Cincinnati, Houston, BYU and Central Florida.

Plus, we get his take on the craziest coaching search he's covered at FootballScoop.com and more.

Texas fans won’t want to miss this exclusive interview edition of The Flagship Podcast.
