Summary

On this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, long-time Texas reporter Roger Wallace, the sports director at KXAN-TV in Austin the past 26 years, has been a part of Longhorn Radio Network broadcasts since 2004. We talk to Wallace about the state of Texas football, the $25 million decision to move on from Tom Herman and Herman's staff and the hiring of Steve Sarkisian. We ask Wallace what are "realistic expectations" (if such a thing exists among Texas fans) for Year 1 under Sarkisian?  One of Wallace's first assignments with the Longhorn Radio Network was serving as the sideline reporter for Texas' football game at Arkansas in 2004. Wallace called it "one of the loudest atmospheres I've ever been in - to this day - including at Ohio State in 2005." Of course, Texas plays at Arkansas again in Game 2 of 2021. We talk to Wallace about the state of Texas basketball in Year 6 under Shaka Smart as well as his thoughts on Vic Schaefer's first year leading the Texas women's basketball program. Wallace is a graduate of Indiana University. In fact, his senior year at IU was the same season then-basketball coach Bobby Knight threw a chair across the court against Purdue - and Wallace recounts it all for you. Wallace recaps his day Saturday when he called the Texas women's basketball game against OU when the Sooners erased a 10-point deficit in the final three minutes to upset Texas in OT before going over to Disch-Falk Field to help Craig Way call the Texas-BYU baseball game (in which the Cougars overcame a 4-0 deficit to knock off UT). Of course, we also ask Wallace about some of his favorite moments calling the action on the Longhorn Radio Network since 2004!!
