Summary

Shortly after the Longhorns made their return to campus for the start of voluntary summer workouts, Texas football announced the team had 13 positive cases of COVID-19, which also led to 10 other players being quarantined due to contact tracing. But Texas football is far from the only program experiencing an increased number of positive cases since student-athletes made their return to campus — something most officials expected to be the case. Texas AD Chris Del Conte was very open about how the athletic department was planning for positive COVID-19 tests among student-athletes upon their return to Austin in the weeks prior to the football team making the trip back to campus. On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the latest intel coming from the Longhorns in the days following the program's announcement of more than a dozen COVID-19 cases on the football team and how the recent increases of positive tests in college football could impact the upcoming football season. The hosts then shift their attention to the baseball diamond with three players departing from Texas baseball after Bryce Elder and Duke Ellis signed Major League Baseball contracts and Kam Fields entering his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Flagship then welcomes in special guest and a dear friend of the show, GoPowerCat.com publisher Tim Fitzgerald, for the latest news coming out of Manhattan, Kan. after K-State football saw a spike in players testing positive after returning to campus and the drastic measures the athletic department may take if players do not abide by the football program's health and safety protocols. Chip and Taylor close the show with the 'Love it or Leave it' segment, featuring questions centered around the possibility of the Longhorns having both a 1,000-yard running back and 1,000-yard receiver performance in 2020, the possibility of the college football season finishing more than 50 percent of contests currently scheduled and how many Texas football players will make the 2020 Preseason All-Big 12 First Team. Catch all of that and more in this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast. The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
