In this talk, Chief Curator Lucy Worsley takes a sneak peek behind the scenes of the BBC 4 series, the first Georgians.

Tonight's our topic is going to be the Georgians and the Hanoverian Tersentenary.

And we first started talking about this five years ago.

Those of you who used to visit us five years ago,

may remember that this was the year of the 500th anniversary

of Henry VIII succession to the throne.

And in 2009, we put on a range of exhibitions

about Henry the Eighth. Henry the King, his love life was presented at Hampton Court Palace,

and his sort of martial interests and his suits of armour were presented at the Tower of London.

But even as we were putting all of this attention and fought into Henry VIII and the Tudor age.

It was also on our minds that Hampton Court is not all about the Tudors.

And something else you can see in this aerial view, I think, is the way the palaces

split into two, really. I think of Hampton Court as two palaces for the price of one.

In the foreground here we can see Cardinal Walses and Henry the 8th's Hampton Court.

But look, just as big, if not bigger, is all of the area of the palace built by Christopher Wren for the stewards occupied by the Georgian. So in that last really big

anniversary year for us, we were looking forwards and we started to think that 1714, 2014 was going
