0:00.0	John the Baptist is one of the great characters of the Bible. His purpose was simple,
0:12.5	to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Jesus himself said of John
0:19.1	that he was the greatest of those born of women.
0:22.5	This greatness was not in himself, not his personality, not talent,
0:27.5	but his greatness was in his task, introducing people to Jesus.

0:55.4	You see, I believe the Holy Spirit chose to emphasize certain people's lives
1:00.4	because there are great truths in those lives that we need to learn.
1:05.4	And John the Baptist is one of those people.
1:08.1	He stands head and shoulders, it seems, above so many other Bible characters.
1:12.7	He's the one man that Jesus said never was a greater man ever born of woman. Now, that's quite
1:18.8	an endorsement, I would say. And so, as you open your Bible to the New Testament, the first
1:24.5	great character that we're introduced to is this man now known as John the Baptist.
1:29.3	Now I want to talk to you about so many things about John's life and ministry,
1:33.3	but I want to begin by talking to you about John's family.
1:37.3	You see, God designed that family would put in the foundation for all of life,

1:46.6	draw from the early years. I'm more and more convinced as I study the life of John the
