Hello from the headquarters of Childs Line, which is the new telephone helpline that was launched last Thursday.

Now the team here are busy answering calls from children from all over the country with all kinds of worries.

And many of those calls are coming from the victims of child abuse.

The idea was for children suffering physical or sexual abuse

to have a listening ear at the other end of a phone. But the

helpline was also for adults who had been abused when they were children and

wanted to speak to a counselor. Childline is the first helpline of its kind.

It's open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Wherever they are in the country, children can phone in free of child.

At the time we launched Child Line, I think people didn't realize how widespread child abuse actually is.
