I invite you to take your Bibles if you have one or a Bible from the pew rack and turn with me to Romans chapter 2.

The New Testament, the book of Romans chapter two and while you're turning a few words of

overview and orientation if you're newer this morning, we're preaching through this great letter

of Paul to the Romans.

In the first three chapters, his main agenda is to persuade and to demonstrate that Gentiles and Jews that is everybody is under the power of sin and in

desperate need of the Gospel of verses 16 and 17 of chapter 1.

This demonstration of our need begins in verse 18 of chapter 1.

From 18 to 32, it's all about the Gentile nations who know God because he's been

manifest in creation and they know his ways because they're

written on their hearts and they suppress them and do not honor God or thank him as they

ought and they do not live out what they know to be right.

And therefore the conscience of every human being is dirty and we are guilty before the

Lord. And then in chapter two, he does the same thing for Jews

who had the idea that because they possessed the law and could pass judgment on those bad

Gentiles. Therefore there might be some special avenue to life and Paul undoes all of that in this chapter and we're in the middle of it now.

In verses 1 to 5, it's pointing out that they have no excuse because even though they do point their finger at others they are doing the same kinds of things

And then in verse six which is where a text is going to begin today

He says that the criterion of judgment when God comes in his son again is not going to be Jewishness or gentilishness, it's going to be deeds.

Started verse six.

God will render to each person

according to his deeds.

Now he unpacks that that judgment according to deeds.
