Today we're reflecting on the last couple

of occasions France were in World Cup finals. One, one, lost one, both probably the

most memorable World Cup finals of the last 20 years. Graham Hunter can I take you back to the

burnished summer of 1998 when France last won the World Cup?

Yes, I've just a lovely phrase burnished summer because it felt hot and long and when the final was settled.

It did take me back to 98 when I was a full-time, in the fact of the common Fleet comments Fleet Street reporter was the England correspondent and

you know that that summer was extraordinary in many ways. I remember watching Croatia beating Germany in a fabulous display because back then I'm ashamed to say it was still a national sport I think to what to try and watch Germany lose because their decline was still far off and it felt that there was a sort of
