Hey everyone, welcome to a bonus episode of the film cast. I'm David Chen here with

Dvindra Hardawar, and we have a special treat for you today. An interview slash conversation

with Simon McCoy, the director of Mortal Kombat 2. I do want to give props to Dvindra Hardawar.

He's the one that helped to set this up and that takes a lot of work. DeVra, why don't we just start real quick by talking about like, what made you want to talk to Simon McCoy? Like, you know, you don't usually approach guest offers with this ferocity, but I think something about Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 spoke to you, right? I mean, as you learn from this interview, it is really Carl Urban. Like, I put my, I put my bet on Carl Urban being a draw to this movie. And also, we heard the buzz around this thing. This movie was moved from last fall to May to this month because the buzz was, it was so good. This should be a summer movie. Warner Brothers believed in it. They're like, this can be a franchise movie. And so they moved it from a fall release to like, you know, prime spot in summer. This is not like third week of August. You know, this is like first week of May. It's coming out. Within the summer movie wager, they've already greenlit part three, by the way. At New York

Comic-Con, they announced part three. It's happening. I don't know if it's Simon going to

be Simon McCoy, but somebody will do it. Yeah. So we were so grateful to have a chance to

speak with Simon. Now, I do want to acknowledge, I think Simon was kind of tired when he was

talking to us because he had been doing interviews all day in the

lead up to this movie's release. And that means it's actually even more, we're more grateful

that he took the time to speak to us. It was very nice. He's tired and sick, but it's still a great

chat, folks. Yeah. So again, huge shout out to Dvinger Hardwar for setting this up.

I have to say, the first thing I need to ask you is the first thing I noticed when I saw the marketing for this movie.

I grew up loving Carl Urban.

I've been watching Carl Urban since Hercules in Zena, loved him in Bourne Supremacy, Lord of the Rings.

I'm a big Carl Urban fanboy.

It's great to see him in so many genre of things.

What was like the idea of casting Carl Urban as Johnny Cage,

that just seems inspired. Can you tell me like what led to that?

Yeah, it was once we worked out what we were going to do with Johnny as far as his character,
