Good morning this Saturday, January the 8th. I'm Ali Velshi. There is brand new reporting this morning on the high-stakes ramp-up of the January 6th investigation in Congress.

But I want to start with a hard truth that's often overlooked when we talk about the attack on the Capitol that took place on January 6, 2021.

That violent attack itself was put down that day, but crucially, the insurrection was not. The attack on our democracy, the plot to

overturn the will of the American people, that's all still ongoing. Which brings us to the

year two of the insurrection. And if you want to get a sense of how this

fight is going, consider that the Republican Party, by and large, no longer seems willing to

acknowledge or condemn the causes of the violent coup that took place just over one year ago.

While Congressional Democrats held a moment of silence this week to mark the anniversary of the brutal attack, nearly the entire Republican

side of the House chamber was empty aside from Liz Cheney and her father, the former

Vice President, Dick Cheney.
