We've come to the end of our series on the fight against AIDS.

And the timing of this look back at one of the most deadly pandemics of our lifetime is no coincidence.

With COVID-19, we find ourselves in the middle of yet another pandemic,

one that has already led to the deaths of more than 200,000 people in the US.

These are two very different viruses, but there are enough similarities that it makes sense to compare them.

Particularly, both COVID and AIDS affect poor and marginalized communities at higher rate.

Now, the doctors, virologists, epidemiologists, and public health experts

who are on the front lines of the AIDS crisis are using what they've learned over the past 30 years to help fight this current outbreak.

So, how is the knowledge we've acquired during the AIDS crisis being used to fight COVID-19?

And are we learning from our past mistakes?

Today, we're joined by Dr. Monica Gandhi.

She's Director of the UCSF Center for AIDS Research and Medical Director of the San Francisco General Hospital HIV Clinic, Ward 86.

She's recently contributed to research into COVID-19.
