0:13.0	and God has designed the Christian life so that those who follow him will not only enjoy the destination,
0:19.0	they can also enjoy the journey. You see, we're all
0:23.0	travelers in this world, and God has many wonderful truths to teach us along the way. For the next
0:29.2	few moments, we turn our attention to the Word of God, the only roadmap for this journey. You'll find

0:40.3	Join us now as we study the scriptures together. It is our people that my favorite book of the Bible, the book of Philippians, is a book about joy.
1:03.0	And while I still believe that, I've changed my explanation a little bit. I actually believe the book of Philippians is about the gospel.
1:12.6	You see, the goal is never joy. The goal is God himself. The goal is found in the message of the
1:20.1	gospel. And joy is a byproduct. When you preach the gospel, friends, joy will come. When you believe
1:27.3	the gospel, joy comes along with that salvation. When you preach the gospel, friends, joy will come. When you believe the gospel, joy comes along with that salvation.
1:31.2	When you live according to the gospel, there's joy in the life of obedience.
1:36.8	And so really, the joy is connected to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
1:41.4	We've discovered that already in Philippians chapter 1, where there are repeated references
1:46.0	to the gospel. And why does God repeat himself? Why is this special emphasis found in the opening
1:52.4	of this book? Because the gospel is not only the way in which we come to know the Lord, it's
1:58.6	also the truth that is to guide our Christian life.
2:02.8	Now, the last time we studied together, we looked at a little phrase in verse 27 of Philippians 1.
2:08.1	It is this phrase, the faith of the gospel.
2:11.5	I mean, I say that's at the foundation.
2:13.2	That's where we begin.
2:14.9	That is the life of a Christian.
