Hello and welcome to this Fed Sock Forum virtual call. Today, June 30th, 2025, we're delighted to host a

courthouse steps decision program on Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which is decided last

week by the court. My name is Kayla Kleist and I am deputy director of practice groups here at the

Federal Society. As always, please note that

keep my introduction of our guest today brief, certainly more brief than their careers would deserve,

Today we're fortunate to have with us, John Burch, who is senior counsel and vice president

of appellate advocacy at the Alliance Defending Freedom.

Mr. Burch has argued 12 U.S. Supreme Court cases and more than 30 state Supreme Court cases

since 2011.

Prior to coming to ADF, Mr. Verst served as Solicitor General

for the state of Michigan from 2011 to 2013. Before that, he ran a private firm,

Vershal Opelc, represented Fortune 500 companies, 14thian, and domestic governments,

hot public officials, and industry associations and hyperphousases, primarily on appeal.

He was inducted into the American Academy for Appellate Lawyers and serves as a member for the American Law Institute.

Also during this day is Kyle Douglas Hotkins, who currently serves as a partner at the Hoski Keller, where he's a nationally recognized appellate specialist and chair of the firm's Texas appellate practice.
