The Convention of States is an emergency brake for a runaway train. The state legislatures have the power to limit the scope of the power of the federal government. Time is short, and Congress clearly isn’t interested in limiting the Federal Government. We have a better way to do this, and we need to get involved to help this movement grow. 1:02.9 | Hey guys, thanks for stopping by. Great to be with you. Yeah, it's exciting. It is exciting. All right, I want to jump right into this because, as you know, we've talked about this on my podcast before. |
1:12.0 | A lot of people still confused and wondering what the heck is Convention of State, particularly if they live in My Neck of the Woods in Washington State. |
1:19.4 | So what is Convention of State and why should it matter to the American people? |
1:23.3 | The last week of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, George Mason stood up on the floor and said, look at some day the federal government is going to abuse his authority. |
1:34.8 | And when that happens, we need to have a way for the States to be able to stop it by amending the Constitution to take the way whatever power they're abusing. |
1:43.8 | And so he proposed the language of Article 5 that gives the abilities for States to unilaterally amend the Constitution if they were cooperatively together. |
1:54.3 | And so 34 States to thirds have to call a Convention for a particular topic. |
2:00.0 | And then whatever comes out of the Convention by a simple majority vote of States goes to the state legislatures and 38 States have to agree to it. |
2:09.0 | So Mark and I are working on a project that seeks to amend the Constitution in three areas. |
2:15.2 | Fiscal restraints from the federal government, term limits on federal officials, including Congress but not limited to Congress. |
