Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today is the feast of St. Mark, the writer of the gospel. And we know a lot

from tradition about St. Mark.

Papias, a disciple of St. John the Apostle, relates that Mark, became the interpreter and secretary for Peter,

presumably because Peter did not speak Greek

well enough to be easily understood.

Papius relates that Mark stood beside Peter and repeated his preaching about the life and teaching of Jesus.

Mark then wrote down accurately the teaching of Peter,

very careful not to omit anything or add anything that was not related by Peter.

In the second century, St. Justin Martyr calls the Gospel of Mark, the memoirs, or the recollections of Peter.

So really, the Gospel of Mark is the Gospel of Peter.

Now maybe you've never taken one of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John, and just read straight through it.

It's the best way to get to know Jesus.

And the Gospel of Mark is the shortest.

So if you've never done this or haven't done it for a while,

take the Gospel of Mark. Begin to read it a little bit each day slowly, thinking

about it, but realize it's the story of the deep friendship of Peter with Jesus and the friendship that Jesus
