hello and welcome to bible stories i'm your host matt your buddy todd is today, but I could not wait to get back in the saddle and bring you a brand new Bible story.

Because friends, mom's friends, we need to talk about some family matters. That's right. As you're listening to this, there's a solid chance that you are self-quarantined in your home, and it may feel like the walls are closing in on you. But I want to talk to you about some real family dynamics. I'm talking about a family that was so filled with drama, you're not going to believe it. I'm talking about Abraham and his

wife Sarah and his wife, Hagar. That's right, friend those. Today we're going to talk about

the fate of Hagar and her son, Ishmael. This one comes from Genesis chapter 21, and it goes a

little something like this.

Family drama does not begin to cover the dynamics between Abraham and his wives.

Yep, just to make sure we got it. That's right, mom, wives plural. You'll remember that Abraham

and Sarah had desperately wanted children.

They prayed to God for a child.

God heard their prayers and promised them a son, a son of blessing, and through this sun,

that they'd have more descendants than stars in the sky, pieces of sand on the shore.

It was incredible.

But Sarah, she begins to get anxious about not being able to get

pregnant. She begins to doubt God that he's going to come through on his promises, and she says

this to her husband. The Lord has kept me from having children. Go sleep with my slave. Perhaps I can build a family through her.

And mom, I'd like to tell you that Abraham and Sarah then sat down and had a real heart to heart.

They talked about the fear and they discussed their anxieties and they came to the conclusion that

God will fulfill his promises

and they've got nothing to worry about. They said about their ways. They maybe did some

Sudoku, finished a puzzle, and had a great evening. But instead, nope, they did that weird thing.
