I'm running this episode again this week for a few different reasons.

One, we're taking the week off from posting new episodes.

You might not be shocked to know that last week wasn't the most productive week in my work life. So

playing a little bit of catch up. We'll be back with new episodes next week. But this isn't

completely old material. There are several updates to this story, most of them on the trial

side of things. This episode you're about to listen to

is mostly about the scandal itself. The update I will be providing at the end involves not just

the trial of Fat Leonard himself, but also the various defendants that he bribed in order to carry out his scheme and the

shocking punishment that they are all facing now. So there's that. But also, this ties into an

episode that will be out next week. I've been talking forever about doing a series where we profile the various intelligence

agencies of the United States.

And the first of those episodes is coming next week.

And it's about the Office of Naval Intelligence, which you might be

surprised to know is this country's first intelligence agency ever, but you shouldn't be that

surprised.

They were founded back when we were doing all our war stuff with boats, you know?

And this scandal, the Fat Leonard scandal,

directly involves the Office of Naval Intelligence. So I was going to have to talk about it

at some point when I cover the Office of Naval Intelligence. And hey, looks like I already did.
