So when I went in to talk to Kevin Feigy, who runs Marvel, about the movie, I brought a picture of me holding Masey, and I had just fed her, you know, a bottle, and she was probably two months old, and I was passed out, and she was passed out, and both our mouths were open, and we looked ridiculous.

And I said, this is the Fantastic Four. You know, this is what I want to make.

In this episode, Marvel's First Family defends the world from a planetary threat, and director Matt Shackman's superhero Adventure, The Fantastic Four, First Steps.

The film follows the team of heroes, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing,

as they face their most daunting challenge yet.

Forced to balance their family lives with their roles as heroes, they must defend Earth

from the ravenous space god, Galactus, and

his enigmatic Herald, the Silver Surfer.

In addition to the Fantastic Four First Steps, Shackman's other directorial credits include

the feature film, Cutbank, and episodes of Succession, The Boys, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,

Fargo, Mad Men, and Ugly Betty.

He was nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Limited Series, for Wanda Vision,

and for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for his Game of Thrones episode, The Spoils of War.

Following a screening of the film at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles,

Shackman spoke with director Edward Zwick about filming the Fantastic Four first steps.

So the first question to ask is, do you think you could have made this movie before he had a kid?

Oh, 100% not.

My daughter's right there.

She's nine. That's Maisie. And by far the most fantastic thing that's ever happened in my life was a birth of my daughter. And I knew when I was making a movie that was about going to space and doing all sorts of fantastic things that I needed to find something that was as personal and as intimate for them

um that as what had happened to me yeah well that's that's the thing that interested me most
