opportunity to get his career on track and maybe just maybe get back the woman whose heart he broke.

It's a knowing comedy about action movies and it's a character study of a man who likes to think

he's invincible and the fall guy has amazing stunts I'm Stephen Thompson and I'm

Linda Holmes and today we're talking about the fall guy on pop culture happy hour from NPR

joining us today are our co-host Glenn. Hey Glenn,

Hey, Linda. And Aisha Harris, hey Aisha. Hey Linda.

The fall guy is very, very loosely based on the early 80s TV show of the same name,

starring Lee Majors, but it's pretty much an entirely new story.

Here Ryan Gosling plays Colt Severs.

He's riding high, working as the stunt performer for action star Tom Ryder, played by Aaron Taylor Johnson.

Colt is also dating a cinematographer named Jody. She's played by Emily Blunt.

But when Colt has an onset accident, he steps back from his career and his relationship.

A while later, he's coaxed out of retirement and joins the movie Jody is now directing.

And then a lot of things happen.

The Fall Guy was directed by David Leach, who's a very experienced

action specialist having made Bullet Train and Atomic Blond and Hobbs and Shaw. Leach also spent 20 years

as a stunt performer himself and some pretty high profile projects.

He was Matt Damon's stunt guy in the Bourne ultimatum.
