Hello and welcome to another episode of the fully charged podcast. This is a very interesting

0:19.1

episode. I think what we're witnessing is genuinely another industrial revolution. I don't

0:25.8

even want to count which one it might be. You can say the industrial revolution that started in

0:30.8

the mid-19th century was the first industrial revolution. You could say that. But all the

0:38.6

industrial revolutions we've had, however many there are, I would say this one. So I'd say this

0:44.6

is a second industrial revolution. The first one was entirely 100% dependent on fossil fuel coal

0:51.1

initially, then oil and gas. And that's what we've built the world that we know now. We've

0:56.9

built it on those fuels. And what we're looking at now is the absolute, distinctly tiny little

1:04.7

beginnings of possibly an alternative to that. An alternative to burning fossil fuels that

1:11.2

clearly upset some people so much. They rant and scream and rave and they're convinced that any

1:17.5

alternative is a con and a rip off in a way of crushing poor people into submission. Which is

1:24.2

odd. That is an odd thing to work out. But I mean obviously the fossil fuel industry is fighting like

1:32.0

like the dirty devils they are to stop that. But what I'm with the person I'm talking to today is

1:37.6

I think remarkable because it's not some outsider startup renegade sort of person who wants

1:47.5

disrupt things. So it's someone right on the inside of the automotive industry. Darren Palmer

1:52.6

is vice president of electric vehicles at Ford. Ford Motor Company and essentially Ford are the

1:59.6

oldest big car company in the world. I mean they absolutely started. I suppose you could call that

2:07.2

a second industrial revolution. The mass production up to then even like if you think of trains

2:13.9

and ships and bridges made of steel which the industrial revolution facilitated that they

2:21.6

were kind of built. They were all one-offs. They weren't mass produced but Ford introduced Henry Ford

2:28.9

introduced mass production where you just churned out thousands of the same thing using the same

2:34.0

components. And in their factories they literally had iron ore and wood delivered at one end and
