We started the show talking about and getting into the McDaniel stuff because he also spoke the other day with Bill.

We spent no time on it.

And there are, you know, just a couple takeaways.

One, he was just chatty and was willing to discuss Cam Newton and say nice things about him on the way out the door. He was willing to talk about why Mack Jones won the job and why they believed in him. And he just, you know, gave you all the coach speak. Not that there was anything, you know, headline worthy, but he gave you at least the time of the coach speak on

those issues that Bill wouldn't. And Josh wasn't asked about the COVID thing, so he never had a

chance to go there. But just on Cam and Cam Newton and Mac Jones, he answered all the questions

the way you would expect a coach to answer them with coach speak, but he was light as a feather,

man, as Bill was grunting for seven minutes nine minutes and

jumped right off and wouldn't say a damn nice thing about cam newton or really even elaborate on

mac jones mcdaniels sat there forever talked your face off and just sort of the main takeaway

being that maybe josh mcdainils got what he wanted and bill bellichick's plan didn't quite work out and he was in a bad mood because of it or something like that. And I don't think Bill did anything against his will. I don't believe that at all. Then he was forced into it by Kraft or McDaniels or anyone. I think ultimately he saw what everybody else saw that Mack Jones was the guy and so he did what he wanted to do ultimately. That's what I I think but I don't think it was his original plan and it all sort of came to a head early this week and maybe he was grumpy because of it yeah I wouldn't rule that out and look I said earlier I think he was forced into it I don't mean forced into it like someone held a gun to his head I mean forced into it by the events yeah that ultimately he had what choice could he make other than to go to Matt with Mack Jones because A, the kid played better, which again is the most important factor. If Jones doesn't have a good camp, none of this probably happens. So Jones had a good camp. Then the COVID thing with Cam, and I'm guessing Bill get pissed off by that. Because then he's looking at going, now the guy can't even make himself available for five days. So now what? Now I'm going to get ready for a season. I got to deal with this this year. And then in response, he takes it out on the protocols, which is just kind of weird, but. Well, those are all three things he can't control, right? Like so a rookie quarterback plays a bit over his head. So that puts pressure on him to start the kid over Cam Newton. Cam Newton screws up with the protocols. And the protocols are a pain in the ass to Bill and he hates them. So that's why he was a grump. The irony is that Newton probably played well enough to keep the job. Like he played well enough to keep the job. It was the other stuff. He looked better than he did it all last year. That changed the equation. I thought he threw the ball with greater velocity. I thought he was a little more accurate. You know, the ball came out a little bit quicker. Again, not great, but compared Cam to Cam, 21 to 20, he was better. Okay, we're talking about that.

The expectations for Mack Jones, a floor, a ceiling on, give us examples you can. And the pressors from the Heim Bloom thing, you can weigh in on that, and the Red Sox, whatever you want to you, I promise. Dan, in the car. What do you got, Dan, on Cam Newton? I think you guys are getting closer. So, hey, with the Patriots, they never give you the bread, so you have to follow the breadcrumbs, which you guys have been doing, right? So a few of the breadcrumbs on Cam, two weeks ago today, consensus is he's QB number one. The kid's giving him a run, but at the end of the day, QB1 is going to be Cam. Then it gets a five-day COVID vacation. we all scratch our heads and say, wow, this is going to really impact the race.
