Sometimes a new year can surface thoughts of past mistakes, regrets, things said that should not have been, or things not said that should have been.

But God's creation exists on a much grander scale than hands advancing on a clock.

In fact, his creation is infinite, timeless, existing in what some thinkers have called

the eternal now. Within this eternal now,

each of us exists and has always existed in our true spiritual identity, holy and forever good.

But can anyone say that they always see their true perfection in their present experience?

Most of us, looking at ourselves through a material and, therefore mistaken lens,

definitely see room for improvement.

This desire seems to intensify in the first quarter of the year.

Publishers tend to release self-help books at this time,

while gyms and diet promotions are everywhere.

Yet, the best thing to bring about whatever changes we seem to need

is the spiritual improvement that enables us to see our true timeless selfhood, to see ourselves

as God made and maintains us.

Christian science does not define progress in terms of a material body or a bank account,

but as a growing demonstration of spiritual power. In science and health with key to the

scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy put it this way. Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs

rather than professions of Christian power. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfill.
