This morning, I want to sound the alarm on how critical it is that you step up and

intensify your key skills development.

In the modern world of globalization,

technologies are replacing many low-skill jobs.

Computerization and automation technologies

are also eliminating many medium-skilled jobs like bookkeepers and project managers and analysts and clerks and

replacing them with new technologies. This is causing a massive gap. It is creating an even wider gap between the halves and the have-nots.

And the gap is a skills gap. It is well known that income equality has been rising in the United States. But instead of

inequality rising across the board equally MIT economist David

Otter points out that there are actually two different effects. One is

inequality is increasing at the top and

two inequality is lowering at the bottom. In other words the middle is being

compressed in either to the top or to the bottom. The performers at the top are doing

a lot better than the rest and the people at the bottom are doing a lot worse.

Economist Tyler Cowan claims average is over. The middle class has collapsed. So that means you will

find yourself on either side of the gap. The bottom or the top and the difference will be a skills polarization.
