Encounter a kind of grief that you may not recognize because that's the point.

Let me make this perfectly clear.

Not all Gazans are members of Hamas.

All Palestinians in the West Bank

are not card-carrying members of their political

leadership the Palestinian Authority Gazans are more than being human shields

for Hamas. In fact, grassroots political movements have been engaging in nonviolent,

peaceful protest against Israeli occupation since, well, forever. Those protests not engineered by Hamas, but local peace groups for decades

have been fired upon by Israeli soldiers wounding and killing peaceful protests in the months leading up to and the years

leading up to the Hamas attack on October 7th. Of course nothing legitimizes

the kind of violence that we saw on October 7th. But by labeling all Gazans as Hamas, Palestinians are disenfranchised,

disempowered, and all agencies taken from Palestinians in what appears to be an intentional campaign to weaken the people power

in Gaza while bolstering the perception that Hamas is the ultimate authority in the region.

So why erase Palestinian society in such a way?

How does Israel or the US or the West

benefit from its captured press that acts as if Palestinian society does not exist.
