I'm Ruth Chambers and I lead our parliamentary work.

And I'm Ali Plummer. I work for the RSPB and I lead our work on the Environment Bill there.

Together for the past three years, we've been working as part of the Greener UK Coalition of Environmental Organisations,

working on environmental governance and principles after we've left the EU.

And in particular, in this episode, we're going to be focusing on the Environment Bill.

This bill is going through the UK Parliament at the moment, and it's going

to introduce a new governance system on how we actually look after our environment in the long term.

So the first thing we're going to think about is why does this bill matter? Ali, what do you think

about that? You raised some interesting points, didn't you, about our exit from the EU

and the gaps that that will create in environmental governance and in particular sort of the

fundamentals that underpin environmental law. So I suppose that's a good place to start. I mean,
