In 1974, the terrifying real-life haunting of Doris Bither unfolded inside a small home on Braddock Drive in Culver City, California. This case—later inspiring the book and movie The Entity—became one of the most violent and disturbing paranormal investigations ever recorded.

Doris, a single mother of four with a history of trauma and hardship, claimed her family was being attacked by four aggressive, fog-like entities. The activity included physical assaults, biting, scratching, and even the extremely disturbing allegations of sexual attacks. Her children witnessed these events firsthand, describing muscular, translucent figures and a constant feeling of fear inside the home.

Before moving in, an elderly woman warned Doris the house was “evil,” and soon the activity grew so intense that Doris sought help from parapsychologists Dr. Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor. When the investigators entered the home, they reported heavy pressure in the air, flickering lights, and equipment failure—classic signs associated with extreme hauntings.

Over several months, the team documented violent poltergeist activity. In one infamous incident, more than 30 investigators crowded into a bedroom as a green mist formed into the torso of a large male apparition, confirming the family’s claims of a powerful, physical entity.

Doris’s son Brian later confirmed the attacks, describing the home as hellish and chaotic. He stated the spirits appeared frequently, sometimes walking through the house like living people made of fog.

The haunting reportedly followed Doris even after she moved, lasting until her death in 1999. Today, the Doris Bither case remains one of the most controversial and frightening real haunting and poltergeist cases ever documented—still fueling debates, investigations, and paranormal research worldwide.
