Pushkin. This is talk easy. I'm San Fr Singer-songwriter Arlo Parks. As a teenager growing up in West London with the internet at her fingertips, Parks found inspiration early and often. On the page, it was the

poetry of Mary Oliver and Pat Parker. In her headphones scrolling YouTube endlessly, she discovered Portishead, Joni Mitchell, and

Shade. Of course, following in the footsteps of those artists, she began writing. First first diary entries, then poems that would eventually turn into lyrics

and lyrics that would turn into songs, made with a Macbook, garage band, and a whole lot of heart. Parks released her debut

single in 2018 at just 18 years old. It was quickly followed up with two EPs and a debut album in 2021 entitled

Collapsed in Sunbeams, for which she won the Brit Award for Best New Artist

and the 2021 Mercury Prize.

Her latest project is called My Soft Machine, which was recently released through

Transcressive Records. In Lockstep with the music that came before it,

this new work is marked by vivid descriptions of a Gen Z kid

coming of age at the turn of the century.

At just 22 years old, she's unflinchingly honest in songs that try to make sense of first love,

depression, and young adulthood.

We discuss a lot of that in this conversation, but we also talk about her upbringing across

the pond, some early tracks made in her childhood bedroom, the inspiration she found in Frank Ocean's

Channel Orange, how she kept busy in the pandemic, and where she'd like to go in the years ahead.
