Summary

In part 2 of The Elements in People and Plants, we explore some the Elemental patterns as they exist within the botanical kingdom. From the perspective of ancient traditions, everything in the manifest universe containsΒ allΒ of the four Elements of nature: Earth, Water, Air and Fire- that is, the only way something can physically exist is if it contains these Elemental forces. That being said, every living being has a certain Elemental composition, or constitution, with 1 or 2 having the strongest influence and reflection within it.

When observing plants and theirΒ Elemental reflections, it is important to consider theΒ wholenessΒ of the plant- not just one singular aspect (like the shape, or taste, or a medicinal action). To truly grasp the depth of how the Elements relate to plants we must look at every facet of an herb- from it's habitat, it's morphological characteristics, as well as the various layers of how it influences a person on a physiological, energetic, and spiritual level.

Upon understanding the primary Elemental ruler of a plant, you start to see deeper into the core nature of that plants uniqueness, its essential nature. Suddenly everything about a plant relates to itself and you see the deeper meaning behind why that plant is the way it is. And it is this deeper meaning that leads us into understanding theΒ evolutionary potential of an herbal medicine as it interfaces with our consciousness, as well as simply knowing how to use it holistically with more precision.

0:29.6

All right, so before lunch we were talking about elemental anatomy.

0:36.6

And one of the things, one of the ways I tend to break down our understanding of a person is there's certain layers, excuse me, we've got certain layers of our being, right?

0:44.9

And we're just kind of looking at it on a physical level. You know, we've got kind of the whole

0:49.9

constitution, right? So it's like the net totality of our body, its shape, its general tendencies,

0:58.5

its characteristics and qualities. And again, we'll talk more about constitutional theory tomorrow.

1:06.8

Then we've got, from there we've got like our organ systems, right?

1:11.9

So organ systems being like, for example, like the urinary tract, right?

1:18.1

And the organ, the systems are comprised of individual organs.

1:22.2

So like the urinary tract is composed of the kidneys and the bladder and then all the tubules that connect it.

1:28.3

You know, we think, talk of digestive system, you know, that's everything from the esophagus,

1:33.3

the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, etc. So we've got kind of these systems

1:38.3

that sometimes a whole system can go out of balance. But then the next level detail would just be the organs, the organs that

1:45.2

comprise those systems. So, you know, sometimes maybe someone just has an issue in the stomach

1:50.6

or maybe someone just has an issue in the gallbladder but not necessarily the liver or, you know,

1:56.1

the lungs, but not necessarily the bronchial tract. So we can look at, and these are kind of the different levels of where things can go out of balance.

2:04.2

So sometimes someone will have a constitutional imbalance.

2:07.6

Some people will have a full systems imbalance.

2:10.5

Sometimes people will just have an individual organ imbalance.

2:13.9

And then the next level of that would be the tissues.

2:16.9

So the tissues are the different types of,

2:20.3

well essentially different types of cells that comprise the different types of organs.
