So I'm at the border right now. I am at the Rio Grande and looking at Mexico from this location.

It's very peaceful from where I am, although I'm told by the Border Patrol people that I am being watched,

as are the other folks in our group, by folks on the other side who have, are almost certainly

over there, but are not really sure why a guy in

linen is carrying an umbrella in daylight looking at their side but at any

event I'm here at the border and one of the first things that you're struck by is that it is a very curvy, lush situation that does not fit the model I had in my head previously of a big ass desert

that you could have a couple of recording situation.

In my mind, big ass desert with a wall and maybe some blimps but what I'm looking at is

really an engorged creek that even I am capable of swimming across although if

there's anything that could tangle you up you'd get in trouble, but it would be difficult

to surveil this area on a regular basis.

So instead, what's going on is I'm standing right next to a large cement block that is overlooking

a cliff that is perched above the river.

And this was apparently put here because

drug runners at one point would get across the river.

They'd have a van, they'd go into town

to get rid of their merch, and then they would, if they got caught,

they'd book it back and they would just dukes have hazard themselves across the hill as hard

as they possibly could use it as a ramp get into the middle of the

river and then just swim for it and abandon the vehicle in the middle which would eventually

be fished out by the EPA and hopefully they get to the other side.
