And this week, Marianne will be speaking with Chris Green, an attorney, and the executive

director of the Brooks McCormick Jr. Animal Law and Policy Program at Harvard Law School

about the ag industry's latest attempt to force California to accept pork from pigs' ingestation crates into their supermarkets

in violation of the wishes of Californians expressed in Prop 12.

Wow, that is bananas.

This latest industry effort is known as the Eats Act,

i.e., the ending agricultural trade suppression act.

It is currently pending in Congress,

and though I know it may feel like this fight to keep those

minimal reforms for animals will never end. The fact is it probably won't. This industry

won't give up, and we mustn't either. It is frustrating, though, isn't it? This is a great

interview. The reason I thought it was really important

to interview Chris, who was an old friend of both of ours, is that Harvard did this great

report. The author of the report didn't want to do the interview, so Chris said he would do it,

and it's all about how ridiculous this bill is. But, you know, when you think about it, it's really frustrating of how

much work, unbelievable amounts of work at a very high level, is being put into saving these very,

what are really minimal reforms. I mean, it doesn't even apply to all pork. It just applies to,

you know, gestation crates. It doesn't apply to farrowing crates.
