A report by Reuters revealed that in March the United States in China resumed semi-official

nuclear talks for the first time in five years.

During these discussions, Chinese representatives assured their U.S. counterparts that China would

not use nuclear weapons in a conflict over Taiwan, emphasizing their competence in prevailing through conventional military means.

These talks, known as Track 2, involved former officials and academics rather than current

government representatives allowing for more open dialogue.

While the U.S. raised concerns about China's nuclear policies and potential use of nuclear weapons,

China maintained its stance on no first use and minimal deterrence.
