Dennis Nielsen looks down from his flat at the scene unfolding on the street.

A coffee mug rests against his lips held there by a spindly hand.

The liquor numbs his gums, and soon he allows it to slip past his clenched teeth and

warm his insides.

That's a little better.

He thinks.

Then pushes his glass up on his face and breathes heavily through his hairy nostrils.

The plumber has opened up a manhole in front of the building and is peering down into the

pit with a disgusted look on his face.

Dennis raises his eyebrows, then lumbers away from the window.

He supposes he should join the other neighbors who are standing around down there, puzzling

over what could be causing all the recent troubles with the pipes.

He takes a long swig of whiskey as pushes on a shoe, then stops mid-drink and realizes

that this is not his footwear.

The shoe was about half the size of his own foot, and he laughs out loud to himself.

Getting sloppy old chap.

He slides on a pair of enormous slippers, then shoves the dead boy's sneakers into the

black sack by the door before exiting his flat.

Something slimy and brown as smeared on his hand from the back of trash, and he looks

at it for a moment before bringing it to his nose.
