Welcome to the Dividend Cafe weekly market commentary focused on dividends in your portfolio and dividends in your understanding of economic life.

0:12.1

Good evening and welcome to Dividend Cafe. This is Wednesday, April the 24th. Brian Saitel here with you and good to be with you as always for your to the point

0:23.8

and quick daily market recap of Dividend Cafe. The Dow was down 42 points and basically a mixed

0:30.7

day of trading because the S&P and the NASDAQ were both positive just slightly. S&P was up 0.02,

0:41.5

NASDAQ up 0.10 on. S&P was up 0.02, NASDAQ got point 10 on the day. So a bit mixed day of trading. There is a GDP number out tomorrow and I think part of that was more in

0:48.2

advance of what may be a big market moving day tomorrow. The best performing sector on the day was the Staples sector, the consumer staples.

0:57.3

They were up 1.03%.

0:59.5

Industrials were down about 0.73% on the day.

1:04.5

The 10-year bond yield today closed up four basis points to 464 on the day. WTI crude closed at 8293, which was down about half of a

1:18.3

percentage point for the day. Economic news really was around durable goods orders, which were better

1:25.0

than expected. We got 2.6% up for the month when only 2% was

1:29.8

expected. But most of that, really the lion's share of it was transportation. And so there was a big

1:36.6

rise in plain orders in there baked in. And when you strip out some of those more volatile sectors

1:42.5

like defense spending and transportation core was actually only up 0.2% for the month, which is down from 0.4% the prior month.

1:53.3

So a little bit more sanguine numbers when you kind of peel back the onion a little bit.

1:58.2

But that was the news on the day again tomorrow.
