What's the closest you've ever been to a true psychopath?

Like for example, did you ever know someone who wanted to commit some horrific crime later in life?

Maybe you went to school with them or worked with them or they lived in your neighborhood.

Were there signs they might be capable of doing some horrible thing, or did they seem totally normal until one day they just weren't?

Well, for the person in this story, there were plenty of signs from very early on, and yet the eventual crimes were still far more terrifying than anyone could have anticipated, so viewer discretion is strongly advised.

Already at a young age, Danny LaPlante was a serial thief,

but he wasn't just a thief who broke in and stole your things.

Danny liked to take it further. He actually wanted to mess with people's heads.

In 1985, he was just 15 years old and he'd already started entering people's homes,

taking jewelry, money, and any other stuff he could find.

But he also wouldn't just take things.

He also liked to move stuff around or even leave things behind for people to find. Sometimes this was

subtle, but other times he'd make it obvious because he wanted people to feel like something was

wrong, almost to suspect that somebody had been in their private spaces, but not quite no for sure.

He actually wanted people to think they were losing their minds. He was born on May 15th, 1970 in Massachusetts, at the edge of Boston,

and to say his childhood was a mess would be a serious understatement. Even as a kid, he was

frequently in trouble with the police, and even as a toddler was apparently violent to the point

of sociopathic. The full details of his run-ins with police aren't really clear because he was

still a minor when they occurred, and so the cases are sealed, but either way it was enough for him to develop a reputation in his

neighborhood and at school. And these issues were also present in school. He had dyslexia
