Let's get started by bringing in the man who says parenting really begins when you go from I can do better to

the story about my own upbringing.

Set the stage here, Nancy and I are taking part

in a family cancer walk a few years back.

We used to do these for my cousin Janet who tragically died of

lymphoma back in the 1990s. Road to New England we're doing the five mile

route that my cousin used to do every day. So it's seven of us walking together. My

My brother Pete, my brother Dan, my brother Bob, and my sister Andrea, and

then behind us is Nancy and my mom. And Nancy can't help but notice that of the five hill siblings

we all have at least one shoe untied.

And she turns to my mother and says, you couldn't tease him to tie their shoes from my mother

was like there were a lot of them.

There were a lot.

Just kind of assume that they would.

If one trips over an untied shoelace and that falls down in traffic, well, that

thins to hurt. One less mouth to feed.
