Summary

To avoid this fate, all children would have a thirteenth birthday party and blow out the candles, which caused them to vanish. Jono and Jesse were seven and four, respectively, and lived in a small log house they built. They had to work hard, and Jono had to go out and earn money for the family. One day, Jesse found out where the thirteen-year-olds went and discovered an evil wizard who made them disappear. When the wizard discovered Jesse in the other world, he tried to grab him, but Jesse's body was insubstantial. The wizard demanded to know how Jesse got there, and when Jono refused to tell, Jesse hid and escaped through a blue door. The wizard chased him, but Jesse managed to evade him and escape through a window onto a bouncy bounce house. Jono distracted the wizard with a mirror, and they eventually found a magic spell that saved the day, turning the wizard into a mouse and releasing all the children who had disappeared. Jesse and Jono became heroes and lived happily ever after.
