In 2014, Maryland mother-of-three Catherine Hoggle had been struggling with her mental health.  Catherine had been involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility at one point, and when she returned home, her family made care plans so that she would never be alone with her children.

One evening in September 2014, Catherine convinced her father to let her take her son Jacob (2) with her to get a pizza.  A strange series of events followed, and the following morning, Troy Turner (the father of the children) discovered that Jacob AND his sister Sarah (3) were missing.

Catherine told Troy that she had taken the kids to trial at a new daycare.  When Troy asked her where the daycare center was, Catherine claimed she could not remember.  No trace of either child has ever been found.

Catherine would end up being indicted on murder charges in relation to her children.  This case has dragged on for over a decade due to repeated questions about Catherine’s mental health and her competency to stand trial.

In December 2025, a judge ruled that Catherine is now competent to stand trial for the murder of her children.  The trial is currently scheduled to take place this year, 2026.

It is January 4th, 2026. Ah, we're here. It's going to be our year. We're ready. It's great. Weather update for New York. We've been getting a ton of snow in December. Usually I've said, if you listen to the podcast for a long time, I'm always like, I don't know, New York doesn't get snow anymore.

0:58.1

We get like maybe one snowstorm, two snowstorms, a couple inches here and there.

1:00.1

It's been snow every day.

1:01.0

It's always snowing.

1:04.2

Tons of snow, which, I don't know, it's like fun. And also, after a while, it starts to be a drag because you're like, we have to shovel and brush off the cars again.

1:10.7

Yeah. Yeah. You're like, yeah. I'm like, yeah, totally. I've never ever had that experience. Like I've lived, like I've lived in Vancouver in Canada where it does snow, but we didn't have a car then. So I've never had to deal with the whole car of snow issue, which is maybe one blessing about not having the fun snow part.

1:29.2

Yeah, it's all right. I mean, we make it through. It's pretty to see. Like when I said

1:35.2

you a video, you're like, ooh, wow. Marissa, who is one of our True Crime Society admin friends,

1:41.0

she sent me a photo the other day of some snowflakes. I was like, that is unbelievable. Like,

1:43.9

how to find they are. Like, it actually looks like a movie cartoon snowflake. Yeah, if you can catch them right, you can see the patterns. But yeah, the weather here has been actually pretty average in New South Wales where I live anyway. We are summer. Like, we had a few niceish days, but it's been pretty cool. I even had to wear like sweaters and jumpers.

2:01.9

But then I was just saying, so this week I'm back to work after Christmas break, of course, and this is the week that the heat wave is coming. Of course. So anyway, it's fine. It's been fine. Not too bad. We've got a bit of rain, which is good because we don't want any bushfires. So, yeah, could be worse, could be better, but it's all fine.

2:16.6

It's a beautiful day out there today.

2:17.8

So maybe I'll get outside after we record.

2:20.1

Yes.

2:21.3

Um, fires. So yeah, it could be worse, could be better, but it's all fine. It's a beautiful day out there today, so maybe I'll get outside after we record. Yes. Do you want to mention the book or whatever
