was quiet that morning. The air was cool and ancient dust floated in the beams of sun that cut through the vaulted

windows that lined the red brick walls.

A ceiling fan spun lethargically between the warm lamps that hummed quietly.

An old radio sat on a desk, droning oldies from its worn speakers.

Dr. Kent, a fit man, just past his middle age, leaned back in a chair behind the desk

and held a copy of the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology in one hand.

The cover was rolled back and acted as a handle.

He propped his other hand behind his head and his feet on the table.

He wore a red flannel shirt, tucked into khaki field pants that fell on brown leather boots.

Sometimes he thought about wearing a cowboy hat just to complete the look.
