Perhaps nowhere is the far right stronger than in the second most populous country on earth.

India.

There, the Baratia Janta Party, or BJP, continues in power under Prime Minister Norengra Modi

after winning a huge victory in this year's elections. The BS. is not just a party. The vision of the B.J.P. and their cadre organization, the

RSS, is of an India where Muslims have no history and thus no right to belonging in the present, and of a country

that becomes great again through nuclear-armed militarism.

But while Indian politics have no doubt taken a bleak turn, they are far from novel.
