Hope everyone's staying cool out there in this heat wave, another hot one the day.

But our position preview series continues on

with the running backs. And there are some new names and new faces and some different roles

that are going to be attributed to certain players. And let's start with the notable free-ed

departure of Kenny Gamewell, a dependable player, a fundamentally sound player who the Eagles relied on when they went to the two-in-four-minute offense.

I don't know that that loss should be overlooked, but they have players in the mix, including a second-year pro who the Eagles drafted in the fourth round last year.

But let's start to break things down.

Obviously, Saquan Barkley headlines this unit.

This is a player who etched his name in NFL history last season,

rushing for 2005 yards, only nine players to accomplish that feat,

eclipsing the 2,000-yard rushing barrier.

And the offense obviously ran through Saquan Barkley last year.

It was a run-centric approach, and the Eagles deviated from their philosophical approach

of taking to the air primarily, really by necessity, right?

I mean, the passing game wasn't up to snuff early on,

and it was Nick Siriani who was receptive to the feedback from his offensive line,

and they came out of the by-week swinging, really hitting the ground running, literally,

and that's where you saw the shift in the offense.
