Well, this is one of those nights that reminds us of why we do this, why we care about sports, that we watch these people who just throw everything that they have into trying to be the best, trying to compete, win at the highest levels, be the best players, be the best organizations, be the best coaches.

And fans follow right along with that,

and lots of fans live and die. And today, Danny, there are a lot of fans living and a lot of fans

dying. This is just a ridiculous day. I think we got to start, though, with Jason Tatum,

almost certainly tearing his Achilles tendon in the fourth quarter of game four. And again,

they're going to lose anyway, by the way. We'll get to that part. But this is just, I think nothing

short of one of the most significant injuries in NBA history. Agreed. And the Celtics,

even if they're now down 3-1 in the series and we're going to go down 3-1 even if Tatum hadn't gotten her.

They're the reigning champion. And they are an extremely talented roster. And even though

there's some aging and everything else that's going to happen, the foundation was always going

to be strong with Tatum, who's 27 years old next year. You know, he's 27 right now,

March's birthday. And we'll see when his recovery is, but also, you know, of course,

Chia Brown and everyone else. And the Celtics were already looking down the barrel of being

the most expensive team in NBA history next year when you combine the repeater tax and just

the way that all these

things, because now remember the CBA is getting its real teeth for these expensive teams

in the 25-26 season. So even if they had won back-to-back championships this year, which is

technically still possible, but seems exceedingly unlikely, it seemed like there was going to be

some sort of financial-based reckoning, even with new ownership and everything. The likelihood, exceeding likelihood, once it gets confirmed, it will be actual likelihood of

Jason Tatum missing the entire 25-26 season, means that this new ownership group, Brad Stevens,

have a far more challenging set of conversations ahead of them because it is very different to

look down the barrel of that kind of expenditure with one or two championships in the near
