Hello and welcome to Anatomy of Sex. I'm your host Melanie Studley.

Typically, my husband would be here, but I had a topic that I wanted to talk about all by my loan sum.

But I'm so excited that you're here. We are going to talk today about this idea of sexual othering,

which is an idea that came into my head last night while I was trying to fall asleep,

and it just sort of actually was at one in the morning. I woke up and had this idea in my mind.

And it's something that I have never heard anybody talk about,

but it's something we see in our clients all the time.

So my husband and I do high-performance marriage coaching,

and we see this concept of sexual othering happening, and it creates this division.

So what is sexual othering? I have all of these notes that I've written down for myself this morning,

and how I want to share it and why I think it's impactful,

why I want to shine light on it, all of those things.

So the concept of sexual othering is essentially your declaring sexual separateness from your partner

as a reason for continual sexual dysfunction or unhappiness in your relationship.
