I don't think these are great times going on right now.

I don't think things are going to get better for a little bit.

I'm not trying to be too dour or dyspeptic or whatever,

and there will be wins for America and wins for Trump,

and sometimes they'll be the same thing in the future. And I'm long-term bullish still on America.

But I think there's real damage being done to the rule of law,

to what's left of conservatism, and also to American standing around the world. I mean, I guess

let's make this a special vindication. Jonah was right episode, right?

The stuff I kind of want to talk about fits into that pretty well.

And it gives me permission to repeat myself a little bit.

You know, that's one of the problems I run into.

I talk about this every now and then with other people in my line of work.

It's like how much do you reference stuff that you've said before?

It's a difficult balance because I don't think readers really care when you say,

as I wrote in 2002 or whatever, but there is something about it that I think people who actually,

writers and talkers and thinkers or whatever,
