Would you please open your Bibles to Matthew chapter 21?

We're going to take a look at the first 11 verses of this chapter as we consider Palm Sunday and start preparing our hearts for Passion Week.

Father in heaven, thank you for this time, this place where we can come.

And Lord, give of ourselves to you in worship and in praise and now

Lord receive from you in and through your word speak to us by your spirit we pray in Jesus name

amen to understand palm sunday i think you want to begin by placing the scene of palm sunday what happened

when jesus entered jerusalem on that particular sunday couple thousand years ago and so i want to

read to you matthew chapter 21 verses 7 8 and, which sort of described the scene, because before I break it

down, let's get the scene in our mind. Here we go, starting at verse 7, Matthew chapter 21.

They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set him on them. And a very

great multitude spread their clothes on the road others cut down

branches from the trees and spread them on the road then the multitudes who went before and those who followed

cried out saying hosanna to the son of david blessed is he who comes in the name of lord hosanna

in the highest.

The folks, as we read that and thought about it as we read, I hope that a scene was created

in your mind. Here's a happy, enthusiastic parade of people coming into one of the city

gates of Jerusalem. There's a cult following its mother, an older donkey.

Jesus is on the cult.

He's sitting on a saddle made of clothes.

People are spreading their own clothes and branches on the ground

to be sort of like a carpet for the donkey or the cult to walk upon and as that cult

carrying Jesus walks the road into Jerusalem people all around they're celebrating they're crying out
