of our festive special series with the theme of defections, the defectors, as I've reflected in the

previous ones, and we'll probably do so as you listen to the coming podcast. These are of much wider significance

than merely a kind of individual switching sides. It is a kind of barometer of the wider political

mood. And here we're going to look at two individuals. Tories who defected to what was then

UKIP. You remember UKIP, Nigel Farage, has been leader of

several parties, and this was one of them. And it is Douglas Caswell and Mark Reckless, two Tory MPs

in the Cameron era, who switched to UKIP. And what were the consequences? Was that defection, their defections, a beginning of the

route to the referendum on Brexit or not? That's one of the many themes in this podcast coming up.
