The decentralization and creative destruction that has touched nearly every part of our lives has only recently

began to touch the world of politics.

Matt Welch is editor of Reason magazine and co-author of the new book The Declaration of Independence. We spoke before a forum for the book held yesterday.

I think it's a little bit less of a statement about Libertarianism. We're not providing a voter

guides or trying to necessarily sketch out the definitions of it.

I mean, it is called the Declaration of Independence with the T.S.

for a reason and that we're very interested in the rise of political independence as a block and

then that's with the T.S. and then with the C.E. as a kind of strategy for improving public policy.

We want to improve public policy in a direction that is

identified as Libertarian, but I think that we wrote it in a way to appeal to, especially all independence

or people who feel like they're dissatisfied

with the current system, with the current political parties

in particular, and also public policy.

And then I think we talked a bit about strategic dynamics that people might

take and they might you know use some of the insights there to try to get policies that we might disagree with.

But our view, and it's pretty consistent with reasons, DNA and history,

is that we try to be an outreach in quotes organization. We're not

trying to be the ones who police who gets to be called a libertarian or

defines it even really.

So, you know, the subhead is how libertarian politics

can fix what's wrong with America.
