Hey guys and welcome to the Moms a Murder podcast, a true crime podcast featuring myself

Mandy and my dear friend Melissa. Hi, Melissa. Hi, Mandy. How are you? I'm doing great. It is

0:32.4

spring. Spring. Spring has sprung. Is it, is it officially springing up all over the place? Yeah. It's beautiful. It's such, oh, I love this time of year. It's just gorgeous. And yeah, I'm enjoying it. Yeah. It is. We're in that weird time of year, though, where it'll be like three days of 90 degrees. And then it'll drop down like this morning. I woke up and it was only in the 60s. So I was like, wait a minute. What is this? But yeah, but we're getting there. We are getting there. And yeah, no complaints at all for sure. I will be complaining within the week about the 90s again. But for right now, I'm really happy. Yeah, perfect. So we'll get right into the episode this week for time's sake. Again, I don't know how long

1:11.8

this one's going to be, but this is another bizarre story. And I know that we say that so many

1:17.4

times and we've been doing this show for a while now. So we have had a lot of really wild

1:21.9

stories and just really interesting ones with crazy details. But there's always another one that

1:26.8

comes along later on

1:27.9

that we say the same thing about. So this is another one of those really, really bizarre stories

and has a lot of twists and things in it that you don't hear in other true crime stories.

1:37.7

Crime is full of shocking and confusing and sometimes weird and unexplainable events. And this

1:43.1

week's story has all of those things.

1:45.7

It's really a wild ride from start to finish and there are a lot of tiny details. So here we go.

1:51.3

We're going to start off by talking about a few house fire statistics and you'll see why these are

1:56.5

important statistics as we get into the episode. According to data collected by FEMA, the National

2:01.5

Fire Incident Reporting System, and the National Safety Council, house fires cause an average of

2:06.3

2,620 civilian deaths per year. And the majority of these deaths are due to smoke inhalation.

2:13.6

One civilian fire-related injury actually occurs every 35 minutes, which is, I don't know why I just think of fires as being a lot less common than that.

2:22.2

But that's, you know, that's a lot every 35 minutes for somebody to be injured in a fire in some way.

2:28.5

So the top three causes of house fires are cooking, which account for 50% of all house fires.

2:35.9

And next would be heating equipment, which accounts for 12.5%. And then the third is electrical malfunction, which accounts for

2:41.5

6.3% of house fires. Of the cooking fires, the highest percentage occur on Thanksgiving Day and

2:47.8

fires that are started by candles or heat sources most commonly happen on
